morning all i have had quite the weekend lol saturday instead of working all day as we had planned hubby suprised me with going out to lunch/dinner. it was not really lunch time and since son made us dinner i guess would be half way between lol anyways it felt great to just get out there and relax, the gal who waited on us even gave hubby free dessert lol i didn;t want any i was so full, when we got the tab i noticed the last beer he had ordered was not on it and she said that was dessert and since we are returning guests is their thank you to us for our patronage which i thought was wayyyy cool

yesterday we spent most of the day with dad, i feel so darn bad for him , he feels like no one cares and i don;t think thats the issue i think its they have NO CLUE what to do for him. thats what is so sad. i know that somehow there has to be something that can be done. tomorrow he goes to his kidney doc who is also a internal medicine doc and hope he maybe can help with the meds dad needs. he will need something and the more research i find we are leaning towards steriods , at least maybe they will help his swallowing, like he said if he can at least eat then he will be happy and can live with the bloated water problem, so please send him some good thoughts or prayers or whatever you can to help him and the family to help him we need some extra prayers and good thoughts too. i hope all of you have a wonderful day and hope that this last week of winter is good to you, yesterday we had a variety of things going on we had wind rain snow sleet and sunshine all in about 4 hour period we had pretty strong winds last night and still have some today i know its suppose to be blustreery in march but dang it its cold and i don;t like how i feel from it it makes me hurt. oh speaking of that i am such a idiot, i thought i had to wait until next week to get my meds when in fact i go thursday and get them from the doc sigh i suffered for nothing. i so would love not having to take those but not happening . without my meds i would most likely be dead or wishing i was sigh anyways hope your week is a better one and that the weather god smiles down on you with sunshine and warm weather winter needs to go byebye for sure hugs and love to you all

omg some people are total idiots

ok now i know alot of people know me from the old forum i belonged to for many years so i am sure some of you all read my blog too i hope so anyways, this has nothing to do with that site at all but about a member there who is out of control, i have a dear friend who is going through some hard hard times and she posted a request for prayers for her dh as well as her self and the kids, well this woman took a innocent request for some compassion and made a total ass out of herself. she actually told my friend that she was sure that the reason my friends hubby is on leave from a job was that because of his illness his bosses and doctors could not let him continue to work, then she proceeds to tell her that the reason for it was that alot of people who suffer from the illness her hubby has are murderers and that there was no way his superiours could allow him to stay , this woman has in past also made several comments about other situations, honestly i think she has some serious mental issues herself as she seems to think she is above all and offers misguided advice to alot of people, when we were posting on this site about our chronic pain she actually said we were a bunch of whiny people who basicly should put there big girl panties on and deal with life, but this sooooo is out of line i hope my friend sues for slander she has grounds. outrageous totally nutcase . hang in there darling she is a whacko not your dh . i know its hard but don;t let her get to you she isn;t worth your time love you sweetie

good morning my friends, life here has been very hectic i am so so so ready for spring to come. i feel like i have been stuck on a roller coaster that will just not quit i swear if things don't change very soon i am going to have a nervous breakdown. you would think people who work in health care would want to do whats best for the patient. its like this monday dad was scheduled to have a ct scan, he had to drink that barium crap and then hold that crud inside him long enough to have the ct scan so he drank the one on monday and then we went out there , its right in his records that he is allergic to idodine and that he itches from it. his doc said benadryl was fine no need for predisone, so dad took that but when we got out there the idiots said he could not have it cause they were not aware of his allergy. so he drank that crap for nothing. then to top it all off we had to reschedule for yesterday. the parking there is horrid. i hurt so bad from walking up the ramp and stairs which i almost had a heart attack climbing not once or twice but at least 8 times between the 2 days we were there. then i had to rechedule all his other appointments and now on top of it all my tooth is going bad again and i guess am going to have to have the bastard pulled but i sure as hell don;t know when and to be honest with you i am afraid to do it i know the last time i had a tooth pulled i suffered for over 3 weeks cause i got a dry socket. then to add my back and neck pain i don't think i can deal with it. then to top it all off the cost of it will kill my ins for the year and i have so many other teeth i need fixed, it plain sucks, some days i want to just step right up to a cliff and see if i can fly, not that i would but omg some days anyways now i feel better NOT life still sucks but i am plunging forward for dad everyone else who has a smart ass comment can shove it sideways bye ya all love ME hehe

HELLOOOOOOOOOOOO dumbass look, anyways she is suppose to get the results for us today and please pray that there is hope, i honestly don't think that he will make it much longer his breathing is ok but he has a horrible time for swallowing can not eat much more than soup i feel so damn bad for him, anyways keep him and us in your prayers will post more tonight hugs and love

hey ya all

things are hard for me but am making it through, thursday we take dad to the kidney doctor and hopefully he can give us some answers. i did talk to nance about dialysis and she said that he can have it without having to continue it permentaly so we have hope in that.(nance is my sister and worked with kidney patients at the northwest dialysis center in kitsap county for 10 years so figured she knew what i was asking) i called and asked the doctor to call me today to find out aboutt it as he is swollen in so many places that make it very hard for him to walk even his ankles are the size of tree trunks way to big

is snowing today just what we need am making beef stew for dinner` and i think am going to make brownies and maybe cupcakes for the kids or maybe a banana cake. probably the cupcakes as they are alot easier

working on a shawl for jobug its not a secret she knows about it so am almost half way done and am working on it every night also am making helmet liners for marys godsons unit(hockeymom) and want to work on something very special for a special angel friend of mine , you know who you are and i can not thank you enough for all of your love and caring and what you have done for me, you are the best my sister and friend i love you so very much.

talked to another friend today was great chatting with you sweetie(you know who you are)

i have been invited to join a new forum for multimedium products i think it will be a blast, if you think you would like that contact me and we can talk about this special place we have to go to. made by a special friend and i so enjoy being there even if it is small right now. it will grow

the house smells sooo good with the stew cooking and am making buttermilk biscuits too hubby will enjoy that with his stew is a cold day and it will be a good dinner for us, course the kids will probably stick their noses up and if so can make their own lol here is the recipe as i made it, i don't really have one but this is what i did

2 pounds of stew meat browned in olive oil(or any that you want to use)
fill the kettle with water and add a seasoning packet of beef stew (i used 2) also if you want it really dark brown gravy add some aujuice

i cut up a stalk of celery into small slices , added 2 canned of italian tomatoes

peel and cut up a pound of carrots into bite sizes pieces

and let simmer for a hour and a half in this pot on medium high, about 40 min before the meat is done add 6 cut up large peeled potatoes and add to stew cook until done,
for gravy(if you choose) add some corn starch or flour in a cup add water and add to mixture in kettle stirring and thickening as you go, makes a large amount of beef stew will last here maybe if lucky 2 days lol

i also am baking buttermilk biscuits (i cheated and am doing it out of the can tonight hehe) brownies with ice cream for dessert(or alone) enjoy

have a great day my friends hope to hear from you soon take care hugs and love vicki

hey ya all

sorry been a while since i blogged so much going on and not alot of time for me been very busy with fil talked to my sister nance today and asked her about dialisis she saie could have it occasionally as needed as long as his kidneys don't give out so am hoping that the kidney doc will do that so at least he has a fighting chance thursday he will be recommending the oncologist for dad to go thru chemo i hope he is strong enough to make it thru, otherwise he has months if that to live. the kidney doc is a very dedicated doctor, i believe he is chinese but not sure, but i can tell you after meeting him one time i am very impressed with his dedication, he spent several hours at home studying dads condition. that shows me he is a good doctor and not like his gp who only wanted to deal with one condition at a time which is why dad is as bad as he is. sorry need to stop thinking about that cause it is just raising my blood pressure grrr anyways anyone who reads this pop on and say hi if your my friend from the ville come post i would love to hear from you. thats the part i miss from the ville the rest i don;t miss at all when it becomes the same for all i might consider coming back but doubt im sure the adm would not allow it anyways whatever anyways i miss you guys but not the hassle hugs and love for all of you

things are not good

got a call from the kidney doc today things are not good, it seems that the previous post i made is what dad has for sure, the bad thing is it IS a form of cancer, he is confident that it can be treated with chemo therapy. but can dad survive the chemo, while i know they have made great strides in lessening the side effects basicly it will kill you if it is to strong , our delema of course is wether or not dad will even agree to have it and if he does have to then we are going to go to seattle tothe cancer care alliance, i feel confident that if there is a way to save him they can do it i know they have helped so many people where as main stream oncologists are more opposed to less than normal treatments i also know that the cancer care alliance has had great strides in helping people live a longer life, granted dad is not young he is 79, but the doc said without treatment he has less than a year to live, something i have often wondered about because of how rapid his illness has progressed. is sad though ,m he was so excited because we didn;t think it was cancer but dr wang said that it really is a form of it and chemo isthe only chance so please please let dad make the right decision. please include us all in your prayers as we are in great need of them thank you all of you for reading this and for sticking by me i love you all and appreciate everything you all have done for me take care and hugs and love

THE DESCRIPTION OF AMYLOIDOSIS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Amyloidosis is a progressive, incurable, metabolic disease characterized by abnormal deposits of protein in one or more organs or body systems.

Description

Amyloid proteins are manufactured by malfunctioning bone marrow. Amyloidosis, which occurs when accumulated amyloid deposits impair normal body function, can cause organ failure or death. It is a rare disease, occurring in about eight of every 1,000,000 people. It affects males and females equally and usually develops after the age of 40. At least 15 types of amyloidosis have been identified. Each one is associated with deposits of a different kind of protein.

Types of amyloidosis

The major forms of this disease are primary systemic, secondary, and familial or hereditary amyloidosis. There is also another form of amyloidosis associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Primary systemic amyloidosis usually develops between the ages of 50 and 60. With about 2,000 new cases diagnosed annually, primary systemic amyloidosis is the most common form of this disease in the United States. Also known as light-chain-related amyloidosis, it may also occur in association with multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer).

Secondary amyloidosis is a result of chronic infection or inflammatory disease. It is often associated with:

* familial Mediterranean fever (a bacterial infection characterized by chills, weakness, headache, and recurring fever)

* granulomatous ileitis (inflammation of the small intestine)

* Hodgkin's disease (cancer of the lymphatic system)

* leprosy

* osteomyelitits (bacterial infection of bone and bone marrow)

* rheumatoid arthritis

Familial or hereditary amyloidosis is the only inherited form of the disease. It occurs in members of most ethnic groups, and each family has a distinctive pattern of symptoms and organ involvement. Hereditary amyloidosis is though to be autosomal dominant, which means that only one copy of the defective gene is necessary to cause the disease. A child of a parent with familial amyloidosis has a 50-50 chance of developing the disease.

Amyloidosis can involve any organ or system in the body. The heart, kidneys, gastrointestinal system, and nervous system are affected most often. Other common sites of amyloid accumulation include the brain, joints, liver, spleen, pancreas, respiratory system, and skin.

Causes and symptoms

The cause of amyloidosis is unknown. Most patients have gastrointestinal abnormalities, but other symptoms vary according to the organ(s) or system(s) affected by the disease. Usually the affected organs are rubbery, firm, and enlarged.

Heart

Because amyloid protein deposits can limit the heart's ability to fill with blood between beats, even the slightest exertion can cause shortness of breath. If the heart's electrical system is affected, the heart's rhythm may become erratic. The heart may also be enlarged and heart murmurs may be present. Congestive heart failure may result.

Kidneys

The feet, ankles, and calves swell when amyloidosis damages the kidneys. The kidneys become small and hard, and kidney failure may result. It is not unusual for a patient to lose 20-25 pounds and develop a distaste for meat, eggs, and other protein-rich foods. Cholesterol elevations that don't respond to medication and protein in the urine (proteinuria) are common.

Nervous system

Nervous system symptoms often appear in patients with familial amyloidosis. Inflammation and degeneration of the peripheral nerves (peripheral neuropathy) may be present. One of four patients with amyloidosis has carpal tunnel syndrome, a painful disorder that causes numbness or tingling in response to pressure on nerves around the wrist. Amyloidosis that affects nerves to the feet can cause burning or numbness in the toes and soles and eventually weaken the legs. If nerves controlling bowel function are involved, bouts of diarrhea alternate with periods of constipation. If the disease affects nerves that regulate blood pressure, patients may feel dizzy or faint when they stand up suddenly.

Liver and spleen

The most common symptoms are enlargement of these organs. Liver function is not usually affected until quite late in the course of the disease. Protein accumulation in the spleen can increase the risk of rupture of this organ due to trauma.

Gastrointestinal system

The tongue may be inflammed, enlarged, and stiff. Intestinal movement (motility) may be reduced. Absorption of food and other nutrients may be impaired (and may lead to malnutrition), and there may also be bleeding, abdominal pain, constipation, and diarrhea.

Skin

Skin symptoms occur in about half of all cases of primary and secondary amyloidosis and in all cases where there is inflammation or degeneration of the peripheral nerves. Waxy-looking raised bumps (papules) may appear on the face and neck, in the groin, armpits, or anal area, and on the tongue or in the ear canals. Swelling, hemorrhage beneath the skin (purpura), hair loss, and dry mouth may also occur.

Respiratory system

Airways may be obstructed by amyloid deposits in the nasal sinus, larynx and traches (windpipe).

Diagnosis

Blood and urine tests can reveal the presence of amyloid protein, but tissue or bone-marrow biopsy is necessary to positively diagnose amyloidosis. Once the diagnosis has been confirmed, additional laboratory tests and imaging procedures are performed to determine:

* which type of amyloid protein is involved

* which organ(s) or system(s) have been affected

* how far the disease has progressed

Treatment

The goal of treatment is to slow down or stop production of amyloid protein, eliminate existing amyloid deposits, alleviate underlying disorders (that give rise to secondary amyloidosis), and relieve symptoms caused by heart or kidney damage. Specialists in cardiology, hematology (the study of blood and the tissues that form it), nephrology (the study of kidney function and abnormalities), neurology (the study of the nervous system), and rheumatology (the study of disorders characterized by inflammation or degeneration of connective tissue) work together to assess a patient's medical status and evaluate the effects of amyloidosis on every part of the body.

Colchicine (Colebenemid, Probeneaid), prednisone, (Prodium), and other anti-inflammatory drugs can slow or stop disease progression. Bone-marrow and stem-cell transplants can enable patients to tolerate higher and more effective doses of melphalan (Alkeran) and other chemotherapy drugs prescribed to combat this non-malignant disease. Surgery can relieve nerve pressure and may be performed to correct other symptom-producing conditions. Localized amyloid deposits can also be removed surgically. Dialysis or kidney transplantation can lengthen and improve the quality of life for patients whose amyloidosis results in kidney failure. Heart transplants are rarely performed.

Supportive measures

Although no link has been established between diet and development of amyloid proteins, a patient whose heart or kidneys have been affected by the disease may be advised to use a diuretic or follow a low-salt diet.

Prognosis

Most cases of amyloidosis are diagnosed after the disease has reached an advanced stage. The course of each patient's illness is unique but death, usually a result of heart disease or kidney failure, generally occurs within a few years. Amyloidosis associated by multiple myeloma usually has a poor prognosis. Most patients with both diseases die within one to two years.

Prevention

Genetic couseling may be helpful for patients with hereditary amyloidosis and their families. Use of Cholchicine in patients with familial Mediterranean fever has successfully prevented amyloidosis.

happy new year

happy new year to all of you my dear friends and family, well the year started out with a bang i had a abbsess tooth and of course no one was in. so i had to suffer all thru new years eve, new years day and the next 4 days till monday when i was able to get into the dentist. i was feeling a wee better on sunday but was very shaky and i was kind of worried, went to the dentist monday and he opened up the tooth and immediatly relief, only bad thing was i had a full blown panic attack and that is something i have never had before in public, i shook like a babys rattle. really freaked me out. they were very understanding about it but it was mortifing for me i just could not stop shaking. luckily hubby brought me or otherwise i would still be there lol

if ya all would pray for my fil i would sooo appreciate it, he is not doing well and honestly i don;t think he is going to get much better, he pretty much has given up we try and encourage him but i know how hard it is for him he figures what does he have to look forward to, his wife is gone, his 2 brothers are gone, he kind of forgets we are here i think sometimes and honestly unless you know a sicillian italian family, his family is his parents brothers and sister. i know we are family and he loves us but he always talks about his family "back home" in michigan where he has not lived in 60 years. and he just sort of takes us for granted i guess. but we know he loves us is just old school. so when he has no one is because they are gone not us.

i tried to talk to him last week about where he would want to be buried and he told me next to mom so now we need to get him better enough so he can take care of buying the plot now and getting things arranged. is not like we can afford it anyways and i know that beings as my hubby is a only child then he will recieve the money in the bank ect. but it would be so much easier if it was all paid for and done , i know I am going to have to be the one who will have to take care of having him buried. an is not what i am looking forward to. i helped him with mom because he needed help but it killed me to do it

also please send in boats washington state is under a flood watch the entire puget sound area is getting record numbers of rain, so far today we are at 3 in said we could get 4 to 8 more tonight and tomorrow not good at all please pray for our citizens wish i could bottle it up and send to anyone who needs it in draught areas well i have rambled enough for tonight i wish all of you who read my blog the best of 2009 may your year be filled with sunshine and roses happy times and lots of love, may your dreams come true in all you hold dear to your heart. those with children keep them close to your heart they grow up and away oh so fast if for some reason you see a ark floating by watch for me to be in it sheesh we need sunshine not rain blessings on all who read this and god bless all who believe in him and even those who don't LOL gotcha didn't i hehe just kidding with ya all blessings on all who read and if you do read my blog stop in and say hi i would love to know who actually is reading besides those i have as faithful friends love to you all peace and joy and happiness. love vicki
